BALTIC Mill Wedding Photography – Kate & Alastair
The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead is a stunning venue for a wedding. Kate and Alastair’s big day was styled beautifully around the gallery with elegance and simplicity to pair with the venue itself.
Kate and her bridesmaids got ready at Mal Maison just over the water in Newcastle upon Tyne. Their morning was a lovely laid back affair whilst the gentlemen made their way over to the Baltic in their kilts. Lucky old me, I got to find out what a man keeps in his sporran: apparently the answer is cigarettes and Skittles! I had fun running back and forth across the Millennium Bridge to shoot both parties. I’m not sure the harbour master would agree as I pelted my way over the bridge just as they wanted to raise it. It is a good job I like running
With a large number of guests the hall was full to watch their moving ceremony. The readings were beautiful and I have a particular fondness for candle ceremonies. Candle ceremonies are always elegant. They photograph well, and I think rituals are important.
After the ceremony we went outside for a few photographs. I love being able to throw confetti in front of the entrance! Kate also threw her bouquet, it didn’t go quite as planned and the resulting image is a great example of reportage photography at its best. Some things you just can’t script.
Back inside The BALTIC they had a drinks reception for all the guests upstairs. The brick and glass gave a wonderful effect to the photography. Whilst people were enjoying themselves, we took a few pictures of the happy couple around the gallery itself. The top of the gallery has incredible views across Newcastle and Gateshead. The Tyne sparkles in the sunlight and you just can’t beat that view. We enjoyed the views before heading back downstairs for speeches and the meal.
All in all it was a wonderful day for a wonderful couple. Wishing you both the happiest of futures x
